Your first visit, in order

About 75 minutes from the door to the plan. I keep the hour after yours free, so you are never rushed out.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before you come

A short intake on my own page, which I read the day before. Nothing medical goes through the form on this site.

  2. 02

Step 2: Arrive a few minutes early

Come to Suite 2 on the first floor. There is a chair by the door and water, and the room is quiet.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A talk, about 20 minutes

Your health, your sleep, your eating, what you take and what you would like to do more easily. Ask me anything.

  4. 04

Step 4: Tongue, pulse and the area, about 10 minutes

A look at your tongue, a feel of your pulse at both wrists, and a check of how the sore or tight area moves.

  5. 05

Step 5: Needles and rest, about 30 minutes

A small number of needles, explained one at a time, and a rest under a blanket. I look in often.

  6. 06

    Step 6: A plan, about 15 minutes

When to come back, what to try at home and what it will cost, on a written estimate.

What to wear, eat and bring

  • Wear

Loose clothes that roll up to the knee and the elbow. For the back or shoulders, a top you can slip off, and I drape you with a towel.

  • Eat

A light meal an hour or two before. A very empty or very full stomach makes some people light-headed.

  • Bring

A list of everything you take, including supplements and herbs, and any notes from your doctor you want me to see.

  • Leave at home

Strong scents. I keep the room unscented, and some people are sensitive.

Tell me first

Say these when you book or at the start of the visit. None of them rules you out; they change how I plan it.

  • Pregnancy

Say so when you book, even if it is early. Some points are avoided during pregnancy, and I plan the visit around that.

  • Blood thinners

Or a bleeding disorder. Needles and cups can bruise or bleed more easily, so tell me what you take and how often you are checked.

  • A pacemaker or implant

I do not use electro-stimulation with a pacemaker or any implanted device. Tell me about each one, and I keep the visit to hand-placed needles.

  • Lymph node removal

If lymph nodes were removed on one side, I leave that arm or side alone. Tell me which one.

  • Fear of needles

It is common, and you set the pace. We can start with one or two needles, or with cupping, and I stop whenever you ask.

  • Everything you take

Medicines, supplements and herbs, written down or on your phone. Acupuncture is not a reason to change a medicine; talk to whoever prescribes it first.
