How fees work
Plain answers before you book. Call or write if yours is not here.
Insurance we work with
I am out of network with health plans, so you pay at the visit and I give you a receipt to send to your plan. Some plans pay part of it back and some pay nothing. Plans differ and change every year.
Out of network with most PPO plans
A receipt for you to send to your plan
The plan decides what it pays
If you pay yourself
You pay by card at the end of the visit. What a visit costs depends on how long it is and what is done in it, and I tell you before you book. Many health savings and flexible spending cards work for acupuncture; ask your plan administrator.
Receipts for reimbursement
After every visit I give you an itemized receipt, called a superbill, that you can send to your plan. Your plan may pay part of it back; whether it does, and how much, is the plan’s decision, not mine.
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start, and I give you one in writing. If a bill comes to $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. An estimate is not a contract.
Checking your benefits
Because I am out of network, I cannot check your benefits for you. Call the number on your card and ask the four questions below. It usually takes about ten minutes, and you will know what to expect before you come.
What the first visit includes
About 75 minutes: a talk about your health and your medicines, a look at your tongue and a feel of your pulse, a treatment and a plan for the next few visits. I explain the risks and answer your questions before any needle goes in. Later visits run about 50 minutes.
Four questions for your plan
Before you book, ask your plan
Because I am out of network, these tell you what a receipt from me could earn back.
- 01
Is there an acupuncture benefit?
Some plans have one, some want a referral first and some have none.
- 02
How many visits does it allow?
Many plans cap the visits in a year, or for each condition.
- 03
Is there a copay or a deductible?
Ask what you pay at each visit and how much of your deductible is left.
- 04
Do I need a referral?
Some plans want a note from your doctor before they pay.
